Since Monday morning, Claude Code users have been hit by unexpected restrictive use limits. The problems, many of which have been sent on Claude Code’s GitHub page, appear to be concentrated among heavy users of the service, many of whom are on the max plan of $ 200 a month.
Users are told only “Claude -Use Boundary reached” and gets a time (typically within hours) when the limit is reset. But without explicit notice of a change in borders, many users have concluded that their subscription has been downgraded or that their use is traced inaccurately.
“Your tracking of utility boundaries has changed and is no longer accurate,” a user complained. “There is no way in the 30 minutes of a few requests I have hit the 900 messages.”
When he reached a comment, an anthropic representative confirmed the problems but refused to elaborate further. “We are aware that some Claude code users are experiencing slower response times,” said the representative, “and we are working to solve these problems.”
The change has been alarming for users who did not receive any prior notice of the changes and no guidance on what to expect in the future. A user who asked not to be identified said it has been impossible to promote his project since the boundaries of use came into force. “It just stopped the ability to make progress,” the user told Techcrunch. “I tried Gemini and Kimi, but there is really nothing else that is competitive with the capacity set with Claude code right now.”
These problems have emerged along with wider problems within the Anthropics network. Many API users reported overload errors over the same period and the company’s status page shows six separate problems over the past four days. In particular, the network still shows 100% uptime for the week.
While load errors are common, Anthropic’s new approach to utility limits has created considerable confusion among users, many of whom were not aware that they were subject to utility limits. Part of the confusion comes from Anthropics price system that sets layered boundaries without ever guaranteeing a fixed access level. The most expensive Max plan, which is priced at $ 200 a month, promises use limits 20 times higher than a pro subscription. The Pro -Plan, in turn, offers borders five times higher than the free plan. But anthropic says the free user limit “will vary by demand” and does not set an absolute value. The result leaves users who are unable to plan around utility limits as they have no clear idea of when their service will be limited.

The Max Plan of $ 200 has been particularly popular with heavy users of the service, with some considering the plan as unsustainable for anthropic in the long term. The user we talked to said the plan often allows him to make over $ 1,000 worth of calls (measured in API price fixing) in a single day. As a result, he was not surprised that utility limits became more restrictive – but hoped the company would communicate the changes more clearly.
“Just be transparent,” he said. “The lack of communication just makes people lose confidence in them.”
