“Some of them have to drop their ego. When you just want to jog around and do what you want to do there’s a big problem.”
Russell Martin has already said that the Scottish premiere is where his Rangers team will really be convicted, and he has not wasted time to let the players know what he thinks after several fallen points on opening day.
The new head coach refused to use their Champions League utilization for the draw with Motherwell at Fir Park and told Sky Sports that they were “lucky to get a point” when fans lived them full time.
“We were nowhere in the vicinity where we have to be, and I am extremely disappointed and hurt by it,” he said.
“They were braver than us, they were more aggressive than us.
“There’s a standard here at this football club, and it’s not a person’s fault at all.
“Standard is to return to writing, which is when it goes really well, everyone is all together and it is really good. When it doesn’t go well, you protect yourself a little and self -storage.
“When you just want to jog around and do what you want to do, there’s a big problem.
“Some of them have to drop their ego, I will look at us tactically and accept my responsibility in it.
“But today it is not really tactical, it is a problem of mentality, and we got more than what we actually deserved.”
“We need to train who really wants to be all and who doesn’t.
“But Europe is not an excuse. This club requires playing in Europe. We have qualified for it, so we play a lot in Europe and we want games after the European games a lot and we have to control them better than today.”
Martin has made eight summer signings and he hopes to add more, but he has also warned players that they will not be to make up the numbers.
“Cyriel [Dessers] Is the only one we have actually had a bid for and he comes on and he runs so hard. Some of them have to look at him and set that example.
“There will be people left if they don’t want to come. They’ll be left behind because they really have to understand what playing for this football club will take and what it means, and not just when it’s good.
“I know what we are coming into and I understand the fans’ frustration.
“We are only a game in and it is an ongoing job. We have to work out quickly that really wants to listen, who really wants to fight that will really run when it gets tough.”
Has Martin entered his players too soon?
Sky Sports Pundits assessed Russell Martin’s guys in full -time sentence at Fir Park.
Chris Sutton:
“He’s gone early. Is he right to do that? I think he is likely to be.
“He understands the culture up here, he understands that he has to win. He has gone very early with this, but it is a bit desperate, first match of the season – just kind of ease into absolute machine gun in the dressing room in the way he did.
“For him to do the first game of the season, he sees them every day in training, he must believe that they are the rank rat. He has to do, because why wouldn’t there be a little more balance there?
“When have you ever seen a manager come out and fillet the team – and we all think he’s right, by the way – but when have you ever seen a manager do the first game of the season? I said before, everyone has a good before season, everyone is happy in before season, everyone tells you it’s been wonderful.
“Now the season has started, he has to win, but it was extreme.”
KRIS BOYD:
“For a long period of time, many rangers have sugar-covered a lot of things. When you listen to Russell talking there, he’s annoyed.
“The alarming thing for me would be that he calls them so early.
“He has to be ruthless. There have been too many players who have run over the top of leaders at this football club.
“He appointed one or two players as to the fact that they have done it ok, but there were a lot of those there today who were miles away from it, and that’s the same thing again.”
