Arne Slot praised Liverpool’s mentality after scoring another late winner to demand a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at Anfield.
The Premier League champions let a two-goal lead after the efforts of Andy Robertson and Mo Salah were canceled by Marcos Llorentes double before Virgil van Dijk went home in the second minute of added time.
Liverpool has already made a habit of scoring late winners this season, last beating Burnley 1-0 in the Premier League thanks to Salah’s penalty in 95 minutes.
“If you want to beat a team like Atletico, which is known and has an incredible mentality, you also have to beat them with their own weapon and that is mentality,” the castle told TNT SPORTS.
“I think that’s what we showed again today that we can also beat them by mentality. But I think we should have made it easier for ourselves.”
Slot: pleasantly surprised by Isaac
Castle handed the British record 125 million. Alexander Isaac signed his first Liverpool performance by including him in his starting lineup and was delighted by the contributions of the Swedes.
The Dutchman, who celebrated victory on his 47 -year birthday, said, “Especially because I think he was in the 60 minutes he played, it seemed quite suitable for me, so it wasn’t like he was already very tired after 10 minutes.
“He could just play at this level quite well, so it was the most positive thing and that he can play football and that he is a joy to look at.
“It’s not a surprise to me, but he was perhaps installers than expected.
“I was pleasantly surprised at how fit he was. I wasn’t surprised by the quality, but it’s always nice to see when a player starts how he started. It was a good start but only 60 minutes.
Castle was unsure if Isaac will start again on Saturday at Anfield against Merseyside -Rivals Everton.
He added: “You can tell David [Moyes] He is not going to play 90 minutes [against Everton]”
“I’m really glad he could start today. That’s why we didn’t play him against Burnley. He was good today, and when Hugo (Ekitike) came in he was also a big factor.
“We have two big numbers nine, and we will use them, both of them, throughout the period they are here.
Robertson: We have to make it easier
Meanwhile, Robertson, who was credited with the opener after Salah’s free-minute free kick deflected into the defender, also thought his side’s victory should have been more comfortable.
He told me TNT SPORTS: “I think we have to maybe come back to win a little simpler and a little easier.
“Obviously, it’s a good thing to have been able to continue right until the end, but when you’re 2-0 up and you play so well in the first half, it should have been a more comfortable evening.”
At Isaac’s long -awaited debut, Robertson added: “I thought he was excellent. He didn’t really have one before season, didn’t have many games since last season, but I thought, especially the first half he was excellent.
“Of course he got tired, and then it’s amazing to have a player like Hugo to come on, and both of them have been given such quality.”
Carragher: van Dijk to go down as Liverpool Great
Jamie Carragher Says Van Dijk to be remembered as one of Liverpool’s biggest ever players-not only one of their biggest center-backs after scoring Reds’ Stop Time Winning Against Atletico.
“I don’t like to describe Van Dijk as the best centerback. On Liverpool, many people are called legends because they have won the league or the Champions League,” Carragher told CBS.
“There are plenty of them. But if you want to differentiate and I call them Giants of the Club as Gerrard, Dalglish, Hansen, Barnes, Souness and Salah, the seven top or eight players in Liverpool, he is right in the middle of it.
“He is not at the bottom of the list I can assure you. He will go down as one of the greatest players who have ever played for Liverpool. Not one of the biggest centerbacks, one of the biggest players.”
