Bruno Fernandes was critical of Man Utd’s “lazy” screen in their 2-2 Premier League summer series draw with Everton before calling for further reinforcements in the transfer window.
Fernandes’ punishment in the first half after a mistake by James Tarkowski on Amad Diallo was canceled by Iliman Ndiaye, who ended emphatically from Idrissa Gueye’s Cross after Vitalii Mykolenko had robbed Manuel Ugarte.
Replacing Mason Mount put Manchester United back in front as he turned and curled an excellent finish out over Jordan Pickford from Fernandes’ Pass, but Everton is leveled again as Amad’s attempted clearance hit Ayden Heaven and went into the net.
The freakish own goal that took place as Fernandes kicked out on NDIaye, who responded by pushing him when both players were booked, Manchester United refused a third consecutive win in the Premier League Summer Series, but they were still finished as winners, a point in front of West Ham in the Four-Team Group.
When Fernandes was asked about man’s utd’s tour to America and the display against Everton, Fernandes said, “It has been positive. It has been positive to be together to create a bond between the players.
“It has been important to develop how we want to play and also involve the new players.
“We wouldn’t end this way,” United Skipper added. “Our performance wasn’t the best and we were a little lazy today.
“We will avoid it because you can pay with laziness at any time.”
‘Hopefully we can add one or two more players’
The positive for United Against Everton was a first performance for Bryan Mbeumo, their signature of 71 million. Pounds from Brentford.
He combined smartly with Fernandes and colleague new signing Matheus Cunha on a number of occasions during the first half and showed the advantage of new additions to the troop.
However, United Skipper called for more reinforcements when asked if the club was where it should go into the new season.
“It improves,” he said. “But that’s not the place it should be.
“I don’t want to take a tomb on others, but the club does the best they can in terms of the financial situation they are talking about.
“But it was crystal clear that we needed more competition for the players who were here, more quality to make everyone intensify a little more to get to XI, and I think that’s what the club is trying to do.
“Hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with it.”
‘We need to win mentality back’
After a difficult 15 -placed finish in the Premier League last season and defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham, Fernandes also urged United to start showing a winning mentality again, and he challenged the players to show it on the field.
He said, “Every little thing matters. At this football club you can’t do anything wrong on or off the field because it’s too big all over the world and you get punished by it.
“You get the media’s attention, attention from the fans, and you need to be aware of it.
“The culture of this club won. We have to bring it back.
“It’s not only the winning mentality that we need, but it’s also other things that the club is trying to improve as the facilities, team, staff and a lot of other things.
“Many people have suffered from this, and now it’s time for American players to show it on the field.”
