Manchester City will prioritize signing Elliot Anderson this summer and have no intention of pursuing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, with the Blues placing a £100m price tag on the midfielder.
Reports have credited City with an interest in the Chelsea midfielder – but Sky Sports news have been told that this is not the case.
The city’s priority remains the signing of Elliot Andersen from Nottingham Forest.
Sky Sports news revealed last month exclusively that City are in pole position to sign Anderson, with the growing expectation that he will end up at the Etihad this summer.
Fernandez is valued at more than £100m, but Chelsea are not trying to sell the player. He has a Chelsea contract until 2032.
The Argentine was dropped for two games in April after admitting he wanted to stay in Madrid. The player and his agent also apologized for his comments. They had sought better terms at Chelsea.
Real Madrid want to sign a midfielder this summer and Fernandez is one of their top targets. Chelsea bought him from Benfica for €121m (£104m) in January 2023.
City’s Maresca negotiations continue
Town continue conversations with Enzo Maresca this week about succeeding Pep Guardiola.
Contrary to reports, all points of a proposed three-year contract have not yet been fully agreed.
However, a contract is expected to be finalized in the coming days as discussions center around the timeline of his appointment, the composition of his backroom staff and other finer details.
The club announced on Tuesday that two more of Guardiola’s assistants – Pep Ljinders and Kolo Toure – leaves the Etihad along with Lorenzo Buenaventura, Manel Estiarte and Xabi Mancisidor.
Maresca, who left Chelsea on acrimonious terms in January, still had three-and-a-half years left on his contract there – and the club’s lawyers will be very interested in his next move, as compensation may well be forthcoming.
Chelsea were informed by Maresca last autumn that he had been the subject of interest from City to eventually replace Guardiola when he decided to leave, having worked under him as assistant coach in the 2022/23 season.
What else is Man City looking at?
The club is also looking at other positions, including forwards – and Sky Sports news last month revealed two more names on their list of potential new recruits: RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and the Bournemouth striker Eli Junior KroupI.
Diomande is one of the hottest prodigies on the market this summer, and is high on the lists of Liverpool and Bayern Munich among many others.
Kroupi is an outstanding young striker who has impressed since joining Bournemouth last summer, scoring 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances.
City are currently well supplied across the front line though Savinho supportive Jeremy Doku on the left wing and Omar Marmoush backup center forward to Erling Haaland.
Right back is also an area City are looking at and Sky Sports news have already reported that they are monitoring the progress of the young Feyenoord man Givairo Read among others.
