With Manchester United there is almost never an intermediate plot, but instead an ever -expanding in a scale
Let me explain.
Last season, United had a clear problem with their goal scoring and structure – it was simply highlighted by their 44 goals scored in the Premier League, only three teams scored fewer.
So what did United do in this window? They spent about £ 200 million. On tackling this problem with the signatures of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
After a positive first performance of the season in their defeat against Arsenal – much of the conversation has now been centered around the opposite end of the field with the goalkeeper’s department, the latest area that was under focus on what seemed to be a mistake from Altay Bayindir against Mikel Arteta’s side.
Ruben Amorim admitted in his first news conference of the season that he learned a lot last season. This included realizing how much he needs to protect his side from the amount of noise around the club on a weekly basis.
When I sat down with the United chief ahead of Sunday’s trip to Fulham, Live on Sky SportsIt was an easy question -how did you start protecting it under -Brand -goalkeeper department this week?
“The first thing I’ve already said to my players is when you see so many critics you are being upset and that’s normal,” Amorim explained to Sky Sports News.
“For me, the only way to protect myself and my players is to tell them not to see anything.
“You have to be like a monk, especially when you have problems, and then I try to present the facts because there is sometimes a tale that is not true.
“Altay made a mistake, but last year he had very good performances, so I try to tell it to the players and then try to fight for that story.
“But in the end, it’s with the players they have to enjoy their lives, go to work, enjoy their family and try not to see anything on the TV or on the internet.”
Suffering, new signings and freedom – they are attached to
Many of the players have emphasized that they feel that the mood and the tape around the team have been different.
Yes, there is some hesitation of believing that after former leaders and fake dawn, but there seems to be real optimism after the reopening of their training ground, new and exciting players joining the club and a positive first performance against Arsenal.
Amorim said, “Last year I was sometimes worried about going to the matches, but now I’m excited, it’s completely different.”
“We suffered so much (last season) and it can bind people – the spirit is really good.”
“When you feel the team is playing well, you become confident and you feel more free to play and if you feel more free to play you are happier.
“If you’re happier your daily day is better and it’s like a snowball.”
Amorim’s attacking possibilities have been strengthened with the Premier League tested and tested Mbeumo and Cunha – both who can play as No. 10S or as a main attack to share the load with the young seas.
The threat they showed against Arsenal, whether it was Cunha’s Mazy Runs or Mbeumo’s movements at the back, left fans at Old Trafford with a renewed sense of optimism, and Amorim feels the same.
“We have different options this year, but sometimes football is more than just on the field,” Amorim said.
“The [Mbeumo and Cunha] Coming in in a moment when the spirit is different, the place is different – sometimes we have a lot of very good players, but the scars were there and it affected the team’s dynamics.
“They can help us, not only on the field, but also from the field, I feel that guys are more free because they were not here in the very, very difficult moments – they see another thing.”
A great component of whether Amorim’s United really will be a “other thing” this season could be the young Slovenian Sesko – as Amorim had called ‘football -studded’.
He had already talked about the potential of Sesko, 22, but I was wondering – how exciting can it be for Amorim himself to work and develop a young player as the Slovenian?
Amorim explained, “When you’re in a club like this, you want the best players, but you also have to imagine the future.
“It’s so exciting – I like to know the players, I like to watch the videos of the players and try to get all the information, but you want that confirmation and I felt that SESKO was even better than what I thought.
“I have to be careful, Sesko becomes our striker for many, many years, so we have to put it in his head and let him settle down, to stay calm and enjoy his day because he is really as you said, occupied.
“I’m really happy – not only with him, but with Cunha, Diego (Leon) and Mbeumo – we know we have the players and we know that in our future we want that base and that is really important to us.”
What is success this season?
We are only a game of the season, but if United can repeat their performance against Arsenal most weeks, especially without the distraction of European football, it could provide a promising opportunity for United to improve last season’s 15th place.
However, United have to earn this optimism from them outside Ports from Carrington, and as Amorim previously said, it is only up to them to fight and change their own narrative.
They will only do this by emerging on the journey instead of focusing on the destination.
“Success is winning titles and we don’t know if we want to achieve it (this season),” Amorim said.
“We are not the moment we can say that we clearly fight for the league – we just have to get the little steps, and the little steps are to prepare every game, as if it is one last.
“We want to be really competitive, try to dominate games, try to score goals and not get our fans bored to see our game … So if we have the little things and we put check, check, check – eventually it will get better.
“I think everyone knows we have a goal – not for this season, but in three years to win the Premier League title.
“We will make these steps to achieve this goal, but in this club you know that the story will be different every week, so we have to be prepared for it, block the noise, do the job and try to win games.”
