The editor’s note: Today, Sundar Pichai spoke at the White House Panel about AI training event in Washington, highlighting our efforts to support AI education, including offering Gemini for education to any high school in America. Below is an edited transcription of his comments.
Mrs. Trump, director Kratsios, reputed cabinet officials, hello.
It is an honor for me to be here and support the first lady’s president AI challenge. Through this initiative you inspire young people to use technology in extraordinary ways.
This is deeply important to me. Having regular access to computers changed my life and led me on the path to Google.
I was drawn to its mission: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Today we see AI as the most deep way we will deliver on this mission – and transform knowledge and learning.
We can imagine a future where any student, regardless of their background or location, can learn something in the world – in the way that works best for them.
We have been focused on this for decades. That is why we built Chromebooks for each classroom and why we have worked to manufacture our AI model, Gemini, the world’s leading model for learning.
This is also why we offer Gemini for education to any high school in America. This means that every high school student and every teacher have access to our best AI tools, including guided learning -tools that may be useful for students taking the AI challenge.
We also recently committed $ 1 billion over the next three years to support education and job education programs in the US, and today I am happy to share that $ 150 million of the $ 1 billion will go to grants to support AI education and digital well -being.
This includes $ 3 million to Code.org to transform its curriculum and integrate new AI features. We also supply $ 2 million to the thriving fund to support non -profit organizations, equipping youth aging from the care care system with tools to succeed in the workforce.
For college students, our AI for Education Accelerator has expanded from 100 colleges and universities to 200, including Texas A&M University System and Iowa’s community schools.
And we’ve created a centralized place on the web for teachers and parents to get all our best AI training in a place something we’ve heard can be really useful.
It’s all in service to help the next generation of solving problems, fuel innovation and building an incredible future. These are goals we all share. We are incredibly grateful for the partnership between everyone in this space and for First Lady and the administration to go ahead. Thanks.
